Rampak Genteng is a ritual of ringing rooftile instruments together as a collective statement and agreement. Since 2012 it has taken place in Jatiwangi every three years. Involving thousands of people from many backgrounds; students to mothers, government officer, roof-tile factory workers, who participated in sounding the rooftiles that are usually used for the roofs of their houses, and others music instruments from ceramic into a harmonious music composition. Rampak Genteng also marked the born of a new culture of ceramic music in Jatiwangi, and become commemoration that always be waited by Jatiwangi people.
In 2018, the 3rd Rampak Genteng resulted in a joint agreement among Jatiwangi people to establish the regional identity of the Terracotta City, which was officially recognized by the Governor of West Java in 2019 as a public policy.
The last Rampak Genteng in 2024 envisions the event not only as a cultural celebration but also as an effort to create and expand new public spaces. Since 2012, the process of cultural creation through Rampak Genteng and Tahun Tanah has become the core DNA of how public spaces are reimagined from a bottom-up perspective, centered on the historic site of the former Jatiwangi Sugar Factory.
